France vs. Ireland Handball: Should the game be replayed?
Time after time, when a controversial decision in a high profile football match occurs, such as the one that happened between France and the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday evening, we ask ourselves if new technology should be brought into the ‘beautiful game.’
In last night’s World Cup qualifier match, one of the best players from recent times, Thierry Henry handled the ball, then crossed the ball over to Arsenal’s William Gallas, who headed the ball into the net to put France through 2-1 on aggregate in extra time.
As soon as the ball was handled, the Ireland players immediately put their hands up signalling that they suspected handball, but the referee was having none of it. Even the more gentleman type figure of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given ran up to the referee to vent his anger at why the goal had been allowed and why ‘Le Hand of God’ was not seen by any of the officials.
There are two sides to the outcome of this story. One, is should games enforce goal line technology, video replays and extra officials so this type of thing never happens again? Or should the game continue as it is, because without it, there would never be any controversy, in which sometimes makes the game of football, much like this one, more interesting?

Muere de paro cardiaco el futbolista Antonio de Nigris: tenía 31 años

Monterrey, NL, 15 de noviembre. El futbolista regiomontano Antonio De Nigris murió este domingo en Grecia a consecuencia de un paro cardiaco, a la edad de 31 años, cuando presumiblemente se encontraba dormido en su casa, según confirmaron aquí tanto su hermano Alfonso de Nigris; el presidente del equipo Monterrey, Jorge Urdiales, y el vocero Everardo Valdez.
En Grecia vivía con su esposa Sonia Guerra y su hija.
Antonio de Nigris jugaba actualmente para el AE Larisa del futbol griego, que ocupa el undécimo lugar de la clasificación de la Super Liga Griega, luego de haber jugado dos años y medio en la Super Liga de Turquía.
El Tano, como también se le conocía, inició su carrera con el Monterrey en 1999 y en México militó además con América, Pumas y Puebla. En España jugó en el Villarreal y Polideportivo Ejido; en Colombia jugó en el Once Caldas; en Brasil, con Santos; en Turquía, con el Gaziantepspor, el Ankaraspor y el Ankaragücü.
Fue convocado 21 veces a la selección mexicana, con la que jugó 16 partidos y anotó cuatro goles, de los cuales se recuerda el magnífico disparo a las redes que hizo ante Brasil en su primera convocatoria.
